Taking images of wildlife and landscapes allows me to focus on the place we come from and to which we belong. Pointing my camera at celestial objects forces me to appreciate how small we are and how little we experience – how little we know – of our universe. Whether I look up or down, I am reminded that we live in a vast place filled with mystery and beauty. Because Nature is beyond our full comprehension it holds plenty of surprises. It is a joyous pursuit for me to witness what surprises I can, to capture them and to share.
Photography is about luck, preparation, and putting myself in the right place at the right time. Luck can be enhanced by taking more photos than I need, by returning to the same place again and again, and by nurturing in my creative process an attitude of play.
